There was a time when the installation of Linux was a complicated process and many found it to be a challenge. Now of course, the modern day version of the operating system and its installation is very easy and just as easy and installing software applications such as Adobe Photoshop or even Microsoft office. How To Install Ubuntu Linux 17.04
The latest iteration of the Linux operating system is Ubuntu Linux 17.04 and it is thought by many to be the most user-friendly ever. Ubuntu is a variation of the Linux system and there are lots of different variations that users can choose.
One of the great things about Ubuntu is that it can recognize almost any hardware and for the end user it means you shouldn’t have any problem with it recognizing your network card, display, sound card, or printer. Below you will have our easy to follow guide to installing this new operating system on your computer.
Step 1: Get The ISO Image File
The first thing you need to do is download the ISO Image. It is used to generate a bootable drive so that you can install Ubuntu on your computer. Make sure you download the correct ISO file for the Linux distribution you want to use, in this case Ubuntu 17.04. You burn the ISO file onto a USB or CD/DVD. We recommend using a tool called Unetbootin. This is perfect for creating a bootable USB drive. If you are running Windows the process is simple. Just download the Unetbootin exe file and double click to run it. In a nutshell, download the ISO image and plug in your USB drive. Then get UNetbootin and open it. Once opened click on the Diskimage button. Navigate to where you’ve stored your Unbuntu image. Select and open it. In the Type box at the end of box that is displayed on your screen choose USB drive and select your USB. Click OK and it will write it to your drive. This can take up to five minutes. Once complete, close Unetbootin. You can then remove your USB.
Step 2: Installing Ubuntu
Put the USB drive into your computer and start your computer. Your computer may not show a boot menu so you will need to access this special menu yourself so you can tell your computer what you want it to do. For Windows, you need to press and hold down the F8 key as soon as you press the power button on the computer. Once you boot your computer using the USB a boot screen will be displayed and a welcome screen. You will be given two options to choose from. 1. Try Ubuntu: If you select this you get a live test version of Ubuntu. You can use it without it changing anything on your system. You can also choose to start the installation of the operating system if you like it from here.
2. Install Ubuntu: Begin the installation process immediately without testing out the software.
If you try the software and decide against it, just power off your computer and remove the USB. Restart the computer as normal and continue using your regular operating system.
If you choose to install Ubuntu you will be asked if you want to download updates while installing and if you want to install third-party software. Say yes to both of these. The next stage is to choose the type of installation that you want. There are a few choices that you can make.
· Erase disk and install Ubuntu – Removes your current operating systems and leaves you with Ubuntu only. If you prefer to keep the OS you have you have the option to use Dual Booting. · Encrypt the new Ubuntu installation for security – If you like enhanced security or you’re worried about safety then this might be something you would like. · Use LVM with the new Ubuntu installation – Backup and create snapshots. Also, valuable in resizing partitions.
If you are a new user, it is recommended that you choose the first option. If you have another operating system Ubuntu can be installed as well for dual booting so you can go back and forth between operating systems. This gives you the best of both worlds if that is what you want.
It is important to note that if you choose to erase the disk and install, everything on your desktop will be deleted. Be sure to do a backup before you start.
On the next screen, you have to choose your location then click continue where you choose the layout of the keyboard you use. From there you will be asked to create your user account. You will be required to enter your full name, your computer name, a username, and a password. On this screen, you will also be given the option for automatic login.
After this, the installation process is automatic and once finished you will be required to reboot your computer. Once it reloads you will have Ubuntu Linux as your operating system and you can sign in and start using it.
